Devonfield Hawley Lodge

Devonfield owes its foundation to our Lions Club. The highly acclaimed centre for handicapped citizens was the brainchild of several members of our Devonport Lions Club and has become the principal centre for the North West Coast of Tasmania.

Lion Doctor Fred Rose was the principle instigator and he encouraged others to join him resulting in Devonfield and the large complex it has become to provide residential living, occupational activity, education and care for a wide range of handicapped people from all parts of the NW Coast.

The Lions Club has been a continual supporter of the development with works, improvements and finance. Continued efforts with facility improvements including the swimming pool and its enclosure, the covered barbecue area, sealed road and parking area to the Dell Luck oval with landscaping are some of the achievements by Club Members. 

Our Lions Club of Devonport which became the Lions Club of the City of Devonport following City status can be justly proud of its part in Devonfield.

Skatepark getting finishing touch!

The final landscaping touches are completed around the newly improved and immensely popular skate-ramp. Us Lions feel that our significant donation towards this project were pivotal in it's success in gaining government and council funding and support. The previously set official opening was canceled due to impending weather conditions and a new date has not been set yet.

Jackjumper Research Project Donation to RHH

Dear Lions,

At a recent meeting it was decided that the monies raised for the
Jackjumper project should be sent to Royal Hobart Hospital Jackjumper
Immune Therapy Project. We have been advised by our Health
Co-ordinator Geoff Glow that they still require the funding raised.
A cheque for $16,080.00 has been sent on our Lions District's behalf.

Membership

Our club can now take positive steps to increase the membership situation now that the restrictive clause of the constitution has reverted to the international procedure. Lion Lyndon Thurlow is to be congratulated for bringing about the unanimous approval.

Now it is up to all members to take the initiative to propose quality citizens for membership without the concern of having the nomination anonymously black-balled by two members of the board. The procedure now is that an open vote by the majority of the board means approval.
