The City of Devonport Lions Club had a float in the 2009 Apex Christmas Parade, which was prepared by loads of volunteers - volunteers derived from our members, friends and family! A special thank you to Cathy Clayton, one of our new members, who did the bulk of the organising!

Free for You – Priceless to Them

You can drop off your old eyewear at Lions-sponsored collection boxes in your community. Typical locations include libraries, schools, community centers, places of worship, coffee shops, optometrist offices and other public locations where communities socialize and get together. In 1925, Helen Keller challenged Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." And the Lions organisation accepted. Today, sight programs remain one of the Lions Club's defining causes.

YOUTH INPUT TO WONDERFUL SKATE PARK

Devonport's newly opened skate park is the culmination of seven years community consultation.

Devonport acting mayor Maurice Hill said youth were prominent in the number of petitions. Also with correspondence asking the council to develop a skate park and place for BMX riders.

He said it was exciting to launch the new facility.

"It is aimed at encouraging physical activity and a healthy lifestyle for people of all ages".

"The skate park was developed using input from skaters, bladers, and freestyle BMX riders to cater for differing skill and ability levels.".....

....."The Mersey Bluff Skate Park is the start of major development for the bluff precinct and a destination point that families and our young people from across the region will enjoy for years to come".

"The Devonport City Council and residents thank the Federal and State Governments and the City of Devonport Lions Club for their generous support of this important community facility.", Ald. Hill said.
