Drop Your Eyeglasses in Lions Collection Boxes
Free for You – Priceless to Them

You can drop off your old eyewear at Lions-sponsored collection boxes in your community. Typical locations include libraries, schools, community centers, places of worship, coffee shops, optometrist offices and other public locations where communities socialize and get together. Picture above taken at the Oldaker Street Regional Imaging clinic.
In 1925, Helen Keller challenged Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." And the Lions organisation accepted. Today, sight programs remain one of the Lions Club's defining causes.

YOUTH INPUT TO WONDERFUL SKATE PARK
Devonport's newly opened skate park is the culmination of seven years community consultation.
Devonport acting mayor Maurice Hill said youth were prominent in the number of petitions. Also with correspondence asking the council to develop a skate park and place for BMX riders.
He said it was exciting to launch the new facility.
"It is aimed at encouraging physical activity and a healthy lifestyle for people of all ages".
"The skate park was developed using input from skaters, bladers, and freestyle BMX riders to cater for differing skill and ability levels.".....
....."The Mersey Bluff Skate Park is the start of major development for the bluff precinct and a destination point that families and our young people from across the region will enjoy for years to come".
"The Devonport City Council and residents thank the Federal and State Governments and the City of Devonport Lions Club for their generous support of this important community facility.", Ald. Hill said.

Benefits of the clean-up
Cleaning the Lions Food-van after the Carols by Candle-light does have its advantages; Left-overs! The food-van is a great assett we have in our City of Devonport Lions Club, we rent it out and use it regularly to raise project funding to help the community we live in.

Building on the Spirit
Hands on for the volunteers from the various Devonport Service Clubs to help cover the pump-base of the Spirit of the Sea. The pump will power the fountain which will keep the Spirit of the Sea wet and glistening.
When the fountain and the lights are completed we will have one glistening body on our Devonport foreshore which will certainly attract the tourists!
Incidentally the following limmerick was heard on ABC radio recently:
He looks out o’er the Mersey, his spear firm in his hand
He is the lord of waves and sea, he cares not for the land
And as he stares, not a stitch he wears
He does not look dejected, let’s hope when pretty mermaids pass
He does not get erected...
